Based: Yangon office with frequent travel around Myanmar
Duration: 12 months fixed term, full time with possibility for renewal

Context BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change around the world. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity.

BBC Media Action is delivering an exciting and challenging new programme with support from the Joint Peace Fund. The project will create a national online and television platform that increases public understanding of support for a sustainable, inclusive peace for Myanmar. Sensitive to Myanmar’s ongoing peace process and decades of civil conflict, this content will inform and engage audiences across Myanmar, amplifying the voices of those affected by conflict and building understanding of how the country’s long-running conflicts impact on political stability and development nationwide.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Senior Producer – Audience Recruiter/Researcher is responsible for sourcing audience members for the discussion programmes and contributors for documentaries. The job includes producing pre-production research briefing, fact sheets and booking potential audience members/contributors in accordance with BBC Media Action audience recruitment guidelines.

In addition, s/he takes the job of floor manager, on the day of recording and provide support to the production team.

Main Duties

• Conduct pre-interviews with potential contributors, audience members and prepare production materials such as research briefings, fact sheets and analysis to accompany productions. • Work with Sr. Producer/producers and media monitor on research of content, story line, scripts and contributors. • Finding and booking potential studio audience and contributors in consultation with Senior producer, producer and media monitor while strictly adhering to the audience recruitment guidelines. • To ensure the programme has a broadly representative audience – with due diligence paid to criteria such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability and other demographics.

• Coordinate efforts with the Senior Producer, Producer, media monitor to ensure s/he is kept fully up to date on the status of audience recruitment. • Maintain an extensive network of contacts across a broad spectrum of society and foster these. • To act with integrity when selecting audience members, without bias or favour. At all times to comply with BBC Editorial guidelines and values. • To refer upwards any doubts about the suitability of an audience member. • To maintain accurate records of individuals and organisations contacted in relation to joining the audience and contributing on the shows to produce these records on request. • To exercise a duty of care towards audience members before, during and after the recording, ensuring audience members are well cared for and any special needs they may have – for example to cope with a disability – are met, in cooperation with the Production Manager. • Apply and comply with BBC Guidelines on vulnerable contributors including children. • Take full responsibility of floor manager job in the day or recording, responsible for overseeing the rehearsal and recording schedule both in the studio and on location and ensuring the recording runs to time, to plan and within BBC health and safety guidelines. • Manage the audience and contributors at the recording venue and provide them with briefings that prepare them for the recording. • Travel for recces of recording. • Contributing content on social media pages. • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Producer.

Essential skills and experience • At all times to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, acting as a ‘brand ambassador’ for BBC Media Action Myanmar, when dealing with members of the public and external bodies. • Computer literate – skilled and confident user of office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail applications • Ability to question detail and problem solving in fast paced environment. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with external stakeholders. • Ability to maintain, nurture and develop existing and new contacts. • Proactive approach to meeting deadlines and delivering results with limited supervision. • Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team. • Ability to deal with discretion on sensitive issues and to respond positively to challenges. • Commitment to BBC Media Action’s vision, mission and objectives.
