BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change around the world. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity.
BBC Media Action is delivering an exciting and challenging new programme with support from the Joint Peace Fund. The project will create a national online and television platform that increases public understanding of support for a sustainable, inclusive peace for Myanmar. Sensitive to Myanmar’s ongoing peace process and decades of civil conflict, this content will inform and engage audiences across Myanmar, amplifying the voices of those affected by conflict and building understanding of how the country’s long-running conflicts impact on political stability and development nationwide.
Reporting to TV Director, Camera Person/Visual Editor position requires being responsible for the TV output of BBC Media Action’s this exciting and challenging new programme. S/he will travel around the country filming on documentaries and audience led discussion.
Camera Person/Visual Editor will edit the footage of single or multi camera documentaries and discussion using the available software. S/he will understand all aspects of television production and post-production processes.
• Operate cameras or other filming equipment in locations both in documentaries and discussion. • Edit discussion and documentary programmes, promos and make it TV and online broadcast worth editorial support from Senior Producer and producers.
• Make sure that TV promos, TV programme and online programme is delivered in the time. • Liaise with crew members on lighting and camera movements. • Each programme is properly filmed and edited ensuring BBC guidelines, provide feedback and support to presenter and contributors on camera look. • Use appropriate graphic style and the music for the production. Understand when it is appropriate to use visual and sound effects, and how to use them effectively. • Ensure that vulnerable contributors are protected to the highest level in accordance with BBC Guidelines. Advise the Editor on possible risks and concerns. • Know when to use different technical and creative techniques and apply these effectively. • Diagnose faults on video recording, editing and distribution systems and fix it. • Follow the requirements of the BBC health and safety guidelines and procedures. • Provide any additional support if and when required by the Country Director and other BBC Media Action team in any visual production.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Experience of filming and editing different format TV programmes. • Ability to provide technical advice to TV Director and Production Manager. • Thorough knowledge of different cameras and visual editing software • Demonstrable creative ability, with ability to support staff to think creatively about programme formats and project design development. • An ability to work to tight deadlines and to balance often conflicting demands. • Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team. • Commitment to BBC Media Action’s vision, mission and objectives.
