Based: Yangon, Myanmar with frequent travel around the country
Duration: 12 months fixed term, full time with possibility for renewal
Context:
BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change around the world. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity.
BBC Media Action is delivering an exciting and challenging new programme with support from the Joint Peace Fund. The project will create a national online and television platform that increases public understanding of support for a sustainable, inclusive peace for Myanmar. Sensitive to Myanmar’s ongoing peace process and decades of civil conflict, this content will inform and engage audiences across Myanmar, amplifying the voices of those affected by conflict and building understanding of how the country’s long-running conflicts impact on political stability and development nationwide.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Series Producer and working closely with the Senior Producer, the Presenter will be the face of this exciting and challenging new programme. S/he will travel around the country, gathering the voices of people and sharing their stories, and moderate discussions between and among peace process stakeholders and audiences.
The Presenter will bring voices people from across Myanmar, those affected by conflict and those not, showing how conflict affects lives of people across the country, and what peace may mean for Myanmar’s future. The Presenter will also moderate the lively discussions that take place between audience and panelists and will ensure that the leaders and policymakers respond clearly and directly to the questions addressed to them. The post holder will participate on social media through live and recorded content. The Presenter will work with the rest of editorial and production team to plan future programmes based on audience needs, identify suitable panelists and review programmes following production. The post is based in Yangon and will require regular travel throughout Myanmar.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Present both documentary and discussion content which will broadcast across the country on national television, ensuring high journalistic standards and compliance with BBC Editorial Guidelines at all times including accuracy, fairness, balance and impartiality • Contribute across the range of editorial activities within the production and project team, including offering ideas for future programme topics, selecting panelists, forward planning and background research • Produce high quality scripts for promos and programme links • Attend weekly editorial planning meetings for the programme, programme debriefs and programme reviews • Contribute to the long-term vision for peace process that puts improving the lives people in Myanmar as the focal point of the programme • Engage proactively with online audiences through social media activities • Work closely with the Series and Senior Producer, as well as Management Team, to engage government, donors and other stakeholders in the programme.

Essential skills and experience
• Experience working as a journalist and presenter in television and/or radio, and exceptional editorial judgment. Considerable experience in presenting radio and/or television programming. • Excellent TV presentation skills and an engaging broadcast voice. • Well-developed facilitation, moderation and interviewing skills. • An understanding of the role of media in peace building and the wider role of media in development. • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. • Understanding of different ethnicities and diversity of Myanmar. • knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and how they apply to programme content. • Excellent script writing skills for Television factual programme. • A good understanding of the processes of Television production. • Excellent written and spoken skill of Burmese with accuracy and good written and spoken English
Desirable skills and experience
Previous experience in productions that inform audiences about sensitive political issues. Experience of working in Peace process. Understanding of using media to bring about social change.
