BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change around the world. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity.

BBC Media Action is delivering an exciting and challenging new programme with support from the Joint Peace Fund. The project will create a national online and television platform that increases public understanding of support for a sustainable, inclusive peace for Myanmar. Sensitive to Myanmar’s ongoing peace process and decades of civil conflict, this content will inform and engage audiences across Myanmar, amplifying the voices of those affected by conflict and building understanding of how the country’s long-running conflicts impact on political stability and development nationwide.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Senior Producer, Producer will originate, research, prepare, and work as key team member of producing documentaries and discussion of this exciting and challenging new programme. You will be expected to travel. As this is a new team role, we are seeking people with imagination, energy, a positive ‘can do’ attitude, practical programme making skills, and the gift for delivering outstanding products. Myanmar Pyaw Ba will produce 24 documentary and discussion episodes for broadcast and digital distribution to inform about peace in Myanmar, with increased knowledge of peace process and a better understand of how conflict affects the lives of others.

Producer assists Series Producer, Senior Producer with the research of programme topic, content, contributors, script and story line. S/he must be creative with a lot of motivation and results orientation. Producer needs to be energetic, persuading and change maker all the time. S/he will motivate team and should be a detail-oriented planner who can put together a timeline and make and keep deadlines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Producer ensuring high journalistic standards and compliance with BBC Editorial Guidelines at all times including accuracy, fairness, balance and impartiality. • Find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required specification whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s guidelines.

• Safeguarding pre-production, production and post production ensuring all storylines and scripts are thoroughly researched, culturally sensitive and comply with the objectives of the project. • Make sure that all production activities are carried out efficiently and in line with BBC standards, policies and procedures and make sound judgments on editorially sensitive issues. • Interact with contributors and brief presenter, senior producer to integrate their questions, expressions and aspirations into programmes. • Produce high quality scripts for programme and promos. • Produce short clips to insert in TV programmes and online mediums, contributing to managing social media pages. • Work closely with Researcher/Audience recruiters for finding facts, figures and recces recording locations. • Working with visual editor to edit the content in or without supervision of Senior Producer. • Maintain an excellent contacts book of potential panellists for programmes from political and civil society. • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Series Producer. Essential skills and experience

• Experience using media for developmental goals. • Experience working as a journalist and producer in television and/or radio. • A strong background in current affairs journalism. Considerable experience in producing radio and/or television programming. • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. • Excellent editorial judgement and knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and how they apply to programme content. • Excellent writing skills for television. • A good understanding of the processes television production. • Clear understanding of the aims and values of BBC Media Action and an awareness of the development goals of our programming.
