Context

BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change around the world. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity.

BBC Media Action is delivering an exciting and challenging new programme with support from the Joint Peace Fund. The project will create a national online and television platform that increases public understanding of support for a sustainable, inclusive peace for Myanmar. Sensitive to Myanmar’s ongoing peace process and decades of civil conflict, this content will inform and engage audiences across Myanmar, amplifying the voices of those affected by conflict and building understanding of how the country’s long-running conflicts impact on political stability and development nationwide.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Assistant will work closely alongside Producers and technical team to ensure that all the logistics are in hand for recording documentaries and discussion programmes.

Production Assistant will assist Production Manager on planning and implementing of all stages of the production cycle of the programmes including pre-production, recording and postproduction activities. S/he will raise the quality of all programme outputs and will develop a supportive working relationship with the production and broadcast partners. The Production Assistant will assist Production Manager for making sure that all programmes recorded across the country are produced within BBC Health and Safety guidelines and that the production team adheres to best practice in these areas.

Main Duties

▪ Support the overall logistical planning and execution of production and scheduling of programme recording in close liaison with Production Manager, Senior Producer, TV Director and Sound Engineer. ▪ Develop production plans for the show and produce all required paperwork including contacts lists, production schedules, call sheets and risk assessments. ▪ Ensure compliance of the productions with BBC Media Action best practice for finance and administration. ▪ Accountable for ensuring compliance with Procurement policies and guidelines for the procurement of production resources.

▪ Ensure contracts are in place with partners and suppliers and manage those relationships as appropriate. ▪ Safeguard systems are in place to manage production resources effectively and efficiently including all production equipment and edit facilities. ▪ Maintain and ensure that BBC Health and Safety guidelines are observed throughout the production; that staff are trained and briefed to manage risks, and if necessary seeks advice at the earliest possible stage. ▪ Assist technical team on maintaining all quality of all output of the programme. ▪ Perform other related duties as assigned by the Country Director and Series Producer. ▪ Production support other BBC Media Action projects in Myanmar as required.

Essential skills and experience

▪ Experience in logistics planning and execution especially in the field of television and radio production. ▪ Ability to work and negotiate with vendors, contractors and production staff in studio and on location. ▪ Interest in working on challenging topics ▪ Strong commitment to BBC Production and Health and Safety Guidelines. ▪ Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. • Basic computer skills. • Understanding of geography and broadcasting industry in Myanmar
